Chapter 1: New Guy
JET
Jet sat next to Charles as they scanned the room. The room was lit with very dim lights, and the walls were
a dirty white color. It gave the place a eerie feeling. Perfect for what was going to happen that night. Charles
pointed out a group of girls over by a smoothie counter. The old man looked at Jet, and nodded. Jet shook
his head. He whispered to Charles, "We need three, not five." Charles nodded again, then turned to watch the girls. Just then,
two of the girls ran off crying. Charles smiled at Jet as if to say "I told you so." Jet rolled his eyes. It wasn't his falt
he didn't have years of practice. He was just the new guy, there was no need to show off. Charles stood and casually walked
past the girls. Jet fallowed. None of the girls seemed to notice them. They were laughing at something or other. Jet stood
behind Charles once again, and they waited. The girls went to sit down on the opposite side of the room. The two men fallowed.
The girls sat, and the men sat behind them.
Chapter 2: Sickness
KATE
Kate watched as the poor girls ran away crying. She didn't like it when Vikki tortured people. It was cruel.
But she laughed along with Vikki and Terissa, hoping that it would end there. But of course, they went on to talk about what
else they could have done to those girls, and what they had done to other girls. Kate just sucked on the smoothie straw and
fallowed them to a couple of seats. They were laughing and having a blast. But Kate was worried. Something seemed wrong.
But she wasn't sure what. When they finished there smoothies, all three girls got up and headed for the parking lot.
Suddenly, Kate doubled over in pain.
"Kate what's wrong with...ung." Terissa stumbled and tripped just before she finished her sentance. Vikki
looked terrified as she was hit with a wave of pain as well. Kate curled into a ball and started rocking back and forth. The
pain was terrible, it felt like someone was wrenching her guts out. The whole world was spinnging around her and she
felt like she was falling. She felt empty inside as her guts twisted inside of her. She felt hot and sweaty,
and she felt like she was suffocating. It was a painfully real nightmare. Just when she thought she would die
of pain, it stopped. Kate sat rocking for a little while, and then she stood up, and ran for the bathroom. She heard Vikki
and Terissa just behind her. Terissa was wimpering, and Vikki was unusually quiet. The three ran and ran until they finally
reached the restroom. It was a cheap, dirty public bathroom with one toilet. Vikki shut the door and locked it behind them.
Just in time too. All three girls suddenly felt sick. Terissa and Kate ran for the sink, and Vikki ran for the toilet. Kate's
stomach heaved as she started to puke. At first it wasn't so bad, all that came up was smoothie and lunch. But then her throat
constricted even worse than before, and Kate couldn't breathe. She choked and felt something big coming up her throat. She
felt like her lungs were going to pop, and she knew her face was blue. Finally, whatever it was came up. Kate gasped
and immediately started coughing. They were wet, deep, wrenching coughs. Kate covered her mouth. Finally, she
stopped and she pulled her hands away from her mouth. Blood was splatterd all over her. Suddenly, Terissa was screaming. Kate
looked up to see her friend pointing at the sink. She noticed her hand was covered in blood too. As Kate fallowed her friends
gaze and looked in the sink, she screamed too. There in the little white bowl were two creatures. They looked like squids,
but they were purpley, and bloody. The wriggled and writhed, they seemed to be blind. Vikki stood before the toilet watching
another monster. Suddenly Vikki yelled a sort of war cry or something, then she flushed the toilet. The monster twittered
and snapped as it swirled down the bowl. Vikki started to laugh. She laughed and laughed, little specks of blood flying out
of her mouth. Terissa started to giggle too. Kate saw nothing funny about this. But the other girls did. As usual.
Tears sprang to Kate's eyes, and she ran for the door. She ran right for the parking lot. She
found her car and hopped in, not caring that the other girls would have no ride if she left.As she was backing out, Kate
saw two men standing by the men's bathroom. One was old and the other was young, probably her age. She almost hit a car
parked behind her as she stared at the younger man. She felt that she knew him, yet she had never seen him before in
her life. Kate shook her head and drove home. She had no idea this was only the beginning.
Chapter 3: Mistake
JET
Jet leaned against the bathroom wall and watched one of the girls drive away. Charles watched beside him.
The old man was stairing after her even after she was gone. Jet nudged Charles. He jumped a little, then shook his head sadly.
"Charles?" Jet whispered in concern. The poor man was shaking. Jet rested his hand on Charle's shoulder.
"Is something wrong?" Jet asked. Charles nodded.
"Was it me?" Charles nodded again. Jet sat thinking. He hadn't noticed anything wrong in the beginning, and
the middle went so smoothly. The ending was flawless, except.....
That couldn't be it. It wasn't possible. Charles had been monitering him anyway! He would have fixed it! This
couldn't happen. Not to him. He was apprentice to the best of all! He was the top of his class! He couldn't have made that
mistake. No, it wasn't possible. Jet looked at Charles. He was shaking his head slowly. That said it all.
Jet had just messed up his first, most important spell.
Chapter 4: Laughter
TERISSA
Terissa stood laughing with Vikki. She felt great. Maybe it was just because she had been so sick minutes
before, but right now, she was feeling the best she had ever felt. She could see better, hear better, and unfortunately smell
better too. She felt as light as air. She could do anything, be anything, and defeat everything! Terissa laughed and ran to
the sink. She grabbed one of the squids by it's pokey tentacles, swung it above her head, then threw it into the toilet. The
whole time the little monster screached and squaked, clacking it's beak furiously. Vikki cackled nad flushed the toilet. It
screamed in terror as it spun down. Terissa felt joy bubble up inside her. The noise was terrible, and yet, it was pleasant
in a sick kind of way. Terissa found herself smiling as she reached for the next squid. It too went down the toilet, and the
girls laughed. They were smiling as they left the bathroom. But there smiles faded as they saw two men standing outside the
men's restroom. Terissa hissed. She wasn't really sure why. She felt very, offended. It was like these men were threatening
her just by standing there. They shouldn't be near her. They should be far away. She should make them run far away. Terissa
knew what she felt, but she didn't understand. She didn't know theses men. They looked like ordinary men too. Why had she
hissed anyway? When people feel threatened, they don't hiss at people! They walk away. Or something normal like that. The
men did not seem the least bit upset that two young women were hissing at them. The younger one seemed a little shaken,
but Terissa sensed that he wasn't afraid of her. Terissa was suddenly angry. He should be afraid of her. He was just some
random scrawny guy. She was beautiful, and powerful. She knew she was. And he should know too. Then Terissa glanced at the
older man. A shiver ran up her spine, and she felt herself clutching Vikki's arm. Something was wrong with that man. She needed
to get away from that man. She had sensed it from farther away, but now that she was closer, she could feel just how wrong
this man was. He looked so week, and yet every sense in her body was screaming to run. When she looked at the younger man,
she felt slightly upset. The older man desturbed her, down to her bones. Terissa had felt like she could defeat anything.
Here was something she felt she could never defeat, this old man. He shifted his position, and the two girls bolted, like
frightened rabbits. They ran all the way to Terissa's house. Or rather, Terissa's parent's house, 19 miles away. They didn't
even sweat. They barely noticed at first, but soon they were laughing, again. Their laughter brought out Terissa's parents.
Things got scary.
Chapter 5: A Tug
KATE
Kate was almost home when she felt something tug at her brain. It wasn't a physical tug, but more of a sense.
She felt the need to turn right. Kate tried to ignore it. This was silly, if she turned right it could take her hours to get
home. The tugging grew stonger and Kate decided to just go with it. She turned right and fallowed that little tug. Soon she
was hopelessly lost. Kate sighed as she kept fallowing the tug. Eventually, Kate made it to a dark street. The houses were
grey or black, the yards were dead, and the sun couldn't seem to penatrate the thick layer of mist that hung over the street,
giving it a gloomy appierance. Kate gulped. She had been in creepy places before. The whole neighberhood was fillled with
shabby buildings that were dirty and dusty and gloomy. But this felt like Halloween Night, not a sunny June day. Kate looked
around, and realised that she couldn't feel the tug anymore. She got a chill down her spine as she also realised she was still
hopelessly lost. Kate's car slowly rolled down the street. The more she saw of this place, the more she hated it. Suddenly
someone jumped in front of her car. Kate didn't think. She screamed and hit the gas. She ran over the person, or creature,
and drove and drove. The tug in her brain said to turn around and go back. Kate was in no hurry to do that. She was in a hurry
to get home. Kate drove around for hours, until she finally found the freeway. Kate was glad she was in a familiar place,
and even more glad that she was headed home. She didn't get back until two in the morning, and she almost turned around when
she saw two men waiting for her leaning up against a beautiful car. One was young, and the other was old.
Chapter 6: Wizard
CHARLES
Charles sat in passenger seat of the car as Jet drove. Charles' hands gribbed his seat. Jet was so reckless.
In everything. His driving, his spell casting, and even in his conversations he was reckless. A small part of Charles reminded
him that he had been like that in his youth. Charles nodded to himself. Jet was talking to himself. Charles smiled. Speaking
was such a waste to Charles. You can never say exactly what you mean. Speaking causes so many nore problems than just showing
things. Now that he was a true master, Charles could conjer up a image in someone's mind, and show them what he wanted to
say. It was so much easier. Jet did not agree with Charles. His philosophy was that talking was a natural way for humans to
interact and he would never give up speaking. Jet pulled up in front of one of the girl's home. Charles stepped out of
the car, and Jet ran around to help him. Charles nodded his thanks, then leaned up against the car. Jet fallowed his example.
There were no cars home, so the girl wasn't here. As minutes turned into hours, Charles realised what must have
happpened. She must have been called. Jet had made a terrible mistake. In the last part of the spell, Jet had made her her
own master, instead of makig Jet her master. The girl was supposed to be able to sense Jet at all times, and be ready to come
at command. If she was her own master, she would hear the voices of her kind, and she would fallow them. Jet could not block
out the voices if she controlled herself. Charles sighed. It was all his fault, he shouldn't have let such a young wizard
deal with these creatures. Jet had so much potential though, he could have made it! Charles was still thinking when a little
green car pulled up. Jet smiled and nudged Charles. It was the girl. She looked terified, until Jet ran right up to the passenger
window. He was all smiles. Charles smiled too. Jet was such a charmer, nothing would happen to him. She might be a blood thirsty
beast, but she was still a woman, of sorts, and would not be able to resist Jet. He almost felt sorry for the girl. Almost.
Chapter 7: Voices
TERISSA
Terissa's Mom stood in the doorway looking out at her daughter and Vikki in the yard.
"Terissa?" she called. Terissa felt suddenly uneasy. She stepped towar her mother. The sun sparkled on her
skin, and she realised how pale she was. Terissa looked into her mother's eyes, and found fear.
"Are you all right Tess?" her mother asked. Anger flared up in Terissa. Her mother was afraid of her! Her
own daughter. Well she should be Terissa thought. Terissa's father stepped up behind his wife. He looked scared too. Terissa
hissed. Vikki stepped up next to her friend, hissing as well. That really scared Terissa's mom. The poor woman could handle
her own child being scary, but this other girl cuased her to faint into her husbands arms. He wasn't looking so good either
as he dragged Terissa's mother inside and slammed the door behind him. Terissa rocked back and forth. Her parents didn't want
her. They were afraid of her. They didn't even TRY to understand. Terissa roared in rage. She felt like a wild cat roaring
in agony. Vikki wrapped her arms around Terissa and layed her head on her friend's shoulder. Vikki tensed up. She snapped
her head up and stepped away from Terissa. Terissa raised an eyebrow at Vikki as she tilted her head again, and then snapped
it up.
"Tilt to the left." Vikki whispered in delight. Terissa fallowed orders and tilted her head. As soon as she
did she could hear voices. Ancient, menaceing voices. The sound should have scared her. Instead, it filled her up with joy
and warmth. At first she just stood there listening to the sound, but soon she started to pay attention to the words.
Come. Come to the dark. Come to your home. Fallow us home. Fallow the shadows and the dark. Come find
yourselves.
Terissa smiled and grabbed Vikki's hand. The girls ran with their heads slightly tilted to the left.
Chapter 8: Banshee
KATE
Kate was scared out of her mind as the young guy ran up to the pasenger window. He was so cute, and she felt
like she knew him. Kate carefully leaned over the passenger seat and rolled down the window. He was smiling wide. It looked
really fake. Kate sat back in her seat. The guy leaned in the window.
"My names Jet" He said still smiling phony as he offered his hand.
"A pleasure I'm sure." Kate retorted. She wanted to be alone. Jet laughed and pulled his hand back. Kate rolled
her eyes to herself. Then kate thought of somthing. "Why are you at my house?" Jet smiled grew wider, if that was possible,
and his eyebrows shot up.
"Um, my friend and I are, uh, selling Yankee hats. We are big time fans and were hoping to make a few bucks
selling some stuff we picked up in New York." He didn't sound so sure.
"Don't tell Vikki you are a Yankee hugger, she'll bite your head off." Kate laughed. What are the odds that
this shadey guy loved the Yankees? Jet looked back at the older guy, his face a little pale.
"Bite my head off huh?" He gulped.
"Sure." Kate said suspiciously. What was wrong with this guy. It was a figure of speach. He seemed to think
it was more. And if he was selling stuff, why would he be selling door to door, but not over at the food court? And where
was his stuff? Kate didn't like this guy. Yet she was strangely atracted to him. She still felt like she knew him. Jet. She
had NEVER heard that name before. Jet seemed to get suddenly uncomfortable as he stood there with Kate stairing.
"What is your name?" He asked politely.
"Kate. Kate Ghost." Kate said quickly. Her name sounded more normal if she said it fast. Jet raised his eyebrows
again.
"Kate Ghost? Well Miss Ghost, would you mind coming to see our products?" Jet asked with a smile back on his
face. He ran around and opened the door for Kate. She stepped out reluctantly. Jet ran ahead of her chattering about how they
had hats, figures, cards, sweaters and signed baseballs. Kate didn't really care. She waled past the older man and she felt
his stair burning into the side of her face. Kate looked at him. He looked confused as she smiled politely at him. Jet apeared
next to the other guy.
"Kate meet Charles, Charles meet Kate. Kate Ghost." Jet tried hard not to laugh. Kate glared at him, then
stuck out her hand for Charles to shake.
"Nice to meet you." Kate said. Charles nodded and shook her hand warmly. Kate looked puzzled at Jet.
"He doesn't talk." He explained. Charles smiled and shook his head. Then he motioned for Kate to look
on the other side of the car. Kate walked around the car and saw boxes and boxes of Yankee stuff. Kate gaped. She
saw about 30 boxes. No way could they all have fit in that car. Kate turned around to find she was face to face
with Jet. She smiled embaressed, they were seriously inches apart. Jet jumped back quickly, and Kate wondered what on earth
could have made him so scared.
"Sorry." Kate laughed. Jet just nodded, his face white. Kate shook her head. What was wrong. Jet rocked
back on his heels. Charles looked sad. Kate felt like something big was going to happen. Jet sighed.
"You are a banshee." He said simply. Kate stood there and then it hit her. He was talking to her. She was
a banshee. What did that even mean? What was a banshee? She didn't know. She didn't want to know. Kate shook her head, and
she ran.
Chapter 9: Change of Plans
TERISSA
Terissa and Viki ran with their heads tilted for a long time. They seemed to be getting closer and closer
to their destination. The voice grew louder as they ran farther. Terissa could feel the closeness of the voice. Then the diretions
changed. Intead of heading in the same way she had been, she suddenly felt she needed to turn around. She felt so close to
home, and then she felt she needed something. Terissa glanced at Vikki. She was hesitating too. Then it hit her. They needed
Kate! Of course! Vikki and Terissa turned around in unison, running in the oppostite direction of what felt like home. The
voice had told them to change direction, and it's tone had changed too. The voice sounded urgent, rushing them along. Vikki
was pulling ahead of Terissa. Usually, Vikki would slow for her friend, but this time, panic hurried her ahead of Terissa.
Terissa didn't mind one bit. She felt paniced too. She felt she NEEDED to be somewhere. She needed Kate. SHe was in danger
maybe. Or she was lost. Terissa wished she could run as fast as Vikki. She couldn't. Soon Vikki was out of sight. Terissa
was glad she had the voice to guide her. Terissa kept running, even when her sides ached and her eyes teared up. She slammed
into Vikki around a corner. They stood together staring as they saw Kate running toward them, crying as she went.
Chapter 10: Lake Changeling
JET
Jet jumped into the car as soon as Kate started to run. Charles barely got out of Jet's way. The young wizard
tore after Kate. She was fast, faster than the car, almost. Jet finally caught up to her for a few seconds. She was crying.
Jet let go of the wheel with one hand, and reached out to grab Kate. He grabbed at thin air. Jet found himself stairing at
his empty hands, until he remembered he was driving. Jet snatched his hand back in the car, and consentrated on driving faster.
Kate led him on a wild goose chase, and he felt sure they were going in circles. All he saw was more and more look alike buildings.
Until they came out of the city. Kate was running streight ahead, toward the tree line. Jet sped up, though it didn't
feel like that was possible. He was inches away from Kate, when she swerved to the right, cutting in front of his car
and heading for the lake. Jet couldn't turn without killing himself. He tried to slow down, but he was too late. Jet crashed
his car into the trees. When he finally got out of his mangled car, head spinning, heart pounding, and his whole body acheing,
Jet was smacked with a wave of panic. He saw Kate standing on the shore of the lake, facing a lake changeling. Jet groaned
and started to stumble towards Kate. If she had been a normal Banshee, she would have already run by now, or she would
be kicking changeling butt. But this Banshee stood staring at her doom like a scared rabbit.Charles would be very disapointed
if the girl died. Jet tried to stumble faster.
